A wraparound TimberTech deck anchored into an eroding hillside above Kawagama Lake.
The Project
A wraparound deck on Kawagama Lake, finished in TimberTech Prime+ Coconut Husk and framed with a TimberTech PVC Coastline picture-frame border from the Vintage Collection. Black aluminum railings with glass inserts on the lakeside keep the water views open, and In-Lite lighting on the stairs and lower deck carries the space into the evening.
The Challenge
The site drops steeply toward the lake, and the hillside is actively eroding, so conventional footings were never an option. The wraparound design also meant the structure had to step down the grade while staying perfectly level through every elevation change.
The Solution
We anchored the structure on deep helical piles, driven well below the unstable soil to give the deck a foundation the eroding hillside can’t touch. From there, the deck steps down the slope in tiers, with In-Lite lighting built into the stairs and lower deck for safe footing after dark.
