A maintenance-free Millboard deck in Golden Oak, stepping seamlessly onto the stone pathways of an Acton Island cottage.
The Project
Our second build on Acton Island, this deck is finished in Millboard from the Enhanced Grain collection in Golden Oak, with white aluminum railings and glass panels on the lakeside. The clients wanted a maintenance-free space, so their time at the cottage goes into enjoying it rather than staining and sealing it.
The Challenge
The deck and stairs meet the stone pathways of the property at several points, and every one of those transitions had to land flush. A step sitting even slightly proud of the stone becomes a trip hazard, so the stair layout had to blend perfectly into the pathway.
The Solution
We set the stairs to meet the stone precisely, with consistent rises and a final step that lands level with the path. The result reads as one continuous surface from pathway to deck, safe underfoot and clean to look at.
